In August of 2011, the Pregnancy Care Center of the North Coast became licensed, through the State of California, to operate a Primary Care Clinic. The clinic, J. Rophe Medical, opened its doors to patients in October of 2011 to provide pregnancy testing and ultrasounds at no cost.
The desire is to provide accurate information about options so clients can make informed choices regarding abortion, parenting and adoption. It is important for women to know exactly what is happening in their bodies and ultrasound is an effective way to do that.
Through ultrasound, it can be determined if the pregnancy is in the uterus, the fetus can be measured to determine gestational age, and at 7 weeks, although the heart has been beating since about 21 days after conception, cardiac activity can be observed and measured. Through these three determinations, viability can be confirmed. A significant percentage of early pregnancies are not viable, ending in miscarriage. For the woman who may be leaning toward abortion, this could be a relief as it takes the decision out of her hands.
Also, through ultrasound, a patient can be better informed to the development of her unborn baby.
